Events for the Summer of Sustainability

This summer the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center joined forces with the Office of Undergraduate and Interdisciplinary Research: Academy for the Environment to spark interest, awareness, conversation and action around sustainability in the community and on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. A series of events are being held July – September.

         July

July 1 – September 30. “Reused + Recycled = Art,” an exhibit of more than 100 local artworks made from at least 80 percent reused or recycled materials.    Knowledge Center, open during regular hours: http://knowledgecenter.unr.edu/, free admission

July 12, 8 – 11 a.m. Truckee River cleanup. Rock Park, Sparks. In cooperation with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful

July 13, 1- 5 p.m. Opening reception and presentation for “Reused + Recycled = Art.” Speaker Bonnie Monteleone, artist and plastic marine debris    research scientist, free admission. Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center

          August

Aug. 13, 2 p.m. Screening of “Bag It,”a thought-provoking movie about single-use disposables, waste and recycling, oceans and human health. Free admission. Wells Fargo Auditorium, Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center

Aug. 19,  9 a.m. Bus tour for University, City of Reno and Regional Transportation Commission officials and  legislators to showcase key Reno and campus sustainability efforts

         September

Sept. 15, 7 p.m. Screening of “Bag It,”a thought-provoking movie about single-use disposables, waste and recycling, oceans and human health. Free admission. Wells Fargo Auditorium, Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center

Sept. 18, 7 p.m. Presentation and panel discussion. Speaker Beth Terry, author of Plastic Free: How I Kicked the Plastic Habit and How You Can Too, a practical guide to ridding one’s life of plastic. Wells Fargo Auditorium, Knowledge Center, free admission
